First, remove the nosepiece cover from the zoom stereo body by turning it counter-clockwise.
New Model (pictured): Carefully remove the upper portion of the MA571 attachment with the dovetail fitting from the MA571 body. This part screws onto the threaded portion of the stereo body where the nosepiece once was.
Old Model: Carefully place the SMD attachment under the EMZ Zoom stereo and turn the threaded adapter clockwise until it is tightly seated.
It is now ready for filter cube installation.
Attach the lower portion of the MA571 to the top piece with the dovetail mount and tighten with the clamp screw. (New Model)
To change from oblique angle viewing to normal vertical viewing, release the Clamp Screw (located on the side of the unit) and slide the SMD body in the direction indicated by the arrow. Slight adjustment in the coarse focus will be needed.
With the SMD Attachment in normal vertical viewing position, set zoom control at maximum magnification (4.5X) and diopter tubes at zero. Then using the coarse focus controls, focus on the specimen. Re-set zoom control to minimum magnification and re-focus specimen using the diopter adjustment only.
The specimen will now stay in focus throughout the zoom range.
To change from vertical to oblique angle viewing, reverse the instructions above. Re-focus using coarse focus controls only.
By turning adjustment screw the oblique viewing angle may be changed. When the oblique angle is changed it will be necessary to re-adjust the coarse focus control.
By releasing the Clamp the SMD attachment can be rotated through 360 degrees to enable viewing the specimen from any direction.
