Filters are subject to scratching and deterioration with normal use.  Do not use a scratched filter of one that has a deformed central surface, these are likely to shatter.  Residual oils or other contaminants from fingerprints, etc.  Must be removed with alcohol and soft cloth or thse filters will also deform and eventually shatter.  Handle filters only at the edges.  Due to the variety of factors that can cause filters to break in use there is no warranty direct or implied on these.  1. The Ir filter (clear ) must be placed with the deposition film side towards the lamp.  To determine the depositon side take a blunt pencil and approach the point toward the surface of the edge of the IR filter, if reflection of the pencil point seems to touch the pencil point, that is the deposition surface side.  If a gap is present the other side has deposition surface to face the lamp.

The deposition surface reflects the IR back to the lamp.  If the IR filter is reversed then the glass will absorb the IR and expand, thus causing the deposition surface to expand with it and crack the film.  This cracking reduces the film effectiveness to prevent heat stress on the color filters.  Damaged IR filters should not be used.  While it is not likely that the damaged IR filter will shatter, the many small cracks on the depositon side will allow sufficient IR to pass through and likely shatter the color filters, particularly the darker ones that will absorb more of  the IR
