What It Does

Stereo zoom microscopes with detents are popular because the detent mechanism provides fixed, repeatable magnification positions that improve consistency, accuracy, and workflow efficiency during inspection and measurement tasks. A detent is a mechanical click-stop built into the zoom control, allowing the user to feel and lock into specific preset zoom levels instead of relying on a continuously smooth adjustment that may drift or be difficult to reproduce exactly. This is especially important in applications such as electronics repair, PCB inspection, watchmaking, biological dissection, industrial quality control, and microscopy photography, where users often need to return to the same magnification repeatedly or compare observations across multiple samples. Detents also help maintain calibration accuracy when measurement reticles, cameras, or digital imaging software are used, because the microscope can be reliably set to known magnification points that correspond to calibrated values. In teaching labs and production environments, they simplify communication and standardization since operators can quickly select a shared zoom setting without estimation. Although non-detented zoom microscopes offer smoother and infinitely variable magnification control, detented systems are preferred when precision, repeatability, and stable preset zoom positions are more valuable than continuous adjustment flexibility.

EMZ-5D: Microscope Head
The EMZ-5D body offers detent click-stops and delivers sharp, high-contrast images and an excellent zoom range of 6.5:1 that provides exceptionally high-resolution images all throughout the zoom range. The EMZ-5D employs Greenough optics, for improved image flatness and contrast. As a result, images are brighter and more distinct even at the periphery of the field of view. With the large zoom range, the EMZ-5D offers high resolution observation in precision-oriented semi-conductor, medical device and routine inspection. In addition to its compact design and versatility a wide variety of auxiliary lenses and stands are available to allow the user to customize their desired working distance to adapt to almost any application.

MA502: Eyepieces 
Included is the MA502 Super Widefield Eyepiece 10X (pair) with 25mm reticle mount Field No. 23.0, Eye Relief 16.0, Focal Length 25.0.

F: Focus Block 
The F holder is a focusing holder with a rack and pinion mount that allows smooth, precise focusing over 55mm of travel. Coarse focus mechanism incorporates a slip clutch and tension adjustment. Fits 20mm diameter, 71mm long mounting post. The 84.2mm diameter opening accepts all EM Series stereo bodies.

SAS-2: Stand 
The SAS-2 attached is an articulating heavy duty industrial-type boom stand comes with a 20mm diameter drop down mounting post to perfectly complement our EMZ (Zoom), EMT (Turret), EMF (Fixed) Series Stereo Microscope with the proper focus block. Lift Articulating Arm offers the greatest amount of reach along with ease to vertical positioning. The total arm length gives the user a total of 37” from the center of the vertical pole to the center of the focus block.

Ergonomic Design:
